We have designed the 6 Days, 5 Nights Masai Mara itinerary with Hell’s Gate and Lake Nakuru to take you on a journey from Nairobi to these great attractions. Hells Gate National Park is a small, scenic attraction ideal for animal viewing and hiking. It is in Naivasha, a 90-minute drive from Nairobi.

Some wildlife you might see include zebras, antelopes, gazelles, hyenas, and buffaloes. There are also over 100 bird species recorded here. You might also want to know that the setting for the movie Lion King, especially pride rock, is modeled after this park. Another popular film, Tomb Raider, featuring Angelina Jolie, was shot here.

Lake Nakuru National Park is another must-see attraction on this circuit. The lake is home to millions of flamingos; on any given morning, it is transformed into a sea of pink. It is also home to some of the biggest herds of black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffalos, and giraffes.

The Masai Mara National Reserve, the star attraction of this 6-day safari adventure, does not require an introduction. It is home to the 8th wonder of the world, the great wildebeest migration. The reserve has hundreds of animal species roaming its plains and birds within its ecosystem.

The Detailed, 5 Nights, 6 Days Safari to Hell’s Gate, Lake Nakuru, & Masai Mara Itinerary

Now that you have an idea of what this Hell’s Gate National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park Masai Mara itinerary entails, let’s look at what to expect during this tour.

Day 1: Pickup from Nairobi, Transfer to Hell’s Gate, & Cycling Safaris

You will find your designated tour guide waiting for you at JKIA upon your arrival to welcome you to Kenya. The guide will brief you about the tour, welcome you to your exclusive 4×4 safari land cruiser, and transfer you to Hell’s Gate National Park.

The first stop for the day is Hells Gate National Park in Naivasha, roughly a 90-minute drive on smooth roads. Going by road is an excellent way to catch a glimpse of Kenya’s rural areas like the Great Rift Valley. On arrival at Hells Gate National Park, you will explore and look for the various attractions while cycling.

Hells Gate is one of the few parks where walking and cycling safaris are allowed. You will quickly realize how rewarding it is to walk in the wide-open spaces, breathe in the fresh air, and encounter friendly animals as they graze unperturbed.

You can also take a hike to the famous gorges. Your first encounter will be with the 25 meters long Fischer’s Tower, and if you dare, you can attempt to climb it. Next, you will walk along the 24km long Ol Njorowa Gorge, which meanders its way through the park.

Prominent features include hot water springs, and caves, all leading to a dead-end known as ‘the devil’s bedroom.’ The exit will be through the ‘devil’s kitchen’ and out through the ‘devil’s mouth.’ It is safe to say that Hells Gate is a unique adventure.

After the exhilarating walk through the park, you will head for hotel check-in, take lunch, and rest in the afternoon. If you still have energy, our safari guide can take you to Lake Naivasha for a board safari. This safari is usually combined with a walking safari at Crescent Island and will only cost you an additional USD 50 Per Person

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Nakuru & Game Drives at Lake Nakuru National Park

Our safari guide will pick you up early for this part of the trip. The drive from Lake Naivasha to Lake Nakuru is only 1.5-hr. You should be in this park by 8.30 am, ready for your morning game drive.

In the early morning, the lake is a sea of pink, covered by flamingos. Undoubtedly this is one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see. Be sure to take as many pictures as possible. If you look closely, you will discover other species of birds in the lake.

After enjoying the lake and the birds, you will move on to the rest of the park. Lake Nakuru has the right balance of wild animals; you will find the hunters and the hunted. The density of white and black rhinos is relatively high here.

There are also plenty of lions, buffaloes, zebras, and giraffes. After exploring the park for the better part of the morning, you will head to the hotel for check-in and lunch. The safari guide will take you for one last game drive in this park until dusk in the afternoon.

Day 3: Transfer to Masai Mara & Afternoon Game Drive at the Reserve

The 6 Days, 5 Nights Masai Mara Itinerary with Hell’s Gate and Lake Nakuru now takes you to Masai Mara. You will have breakfast and then start this drive. The distance from Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara is about 4 hours, arriving early in the afternoon.

You will check in at the camp, take lunch, and relax for a few hours. Later, our professional safari guide will pick you up and head to the reserve for a late afternoon game drive until sunset.

Day 4: Full-Day Game Drive at Masai Mara National Reserve with Packed Lunch

This is probably the day you have been looking forward to in this 6 Days Masai Mara safari package . The Masai Mara will entice you with its sights and sounds. You will hear animals howling, birds chirping and the mighty Mara River flowing across the savannah bringing life to the park.

Your day starts with breakfast, after which your driver-guide will pick you up for a full-day game drive. Since you will not be returning to the lodge for lunch, your guide will have planned for the hotel to prepare a packaged lunch.

The drive will start slowly, allowing you time to view the animals as they graze quietly. Your guide is quite knowledgeable about the different species of animals; do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

In the morning, we expect that you will have encountered most animals- elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, hyenas, giraffes, the elusive leopard, and the jungle king himself.

Your guide will choose a scenic spot by the Mara River for lunch. The flowing water will soothe you as you eat in this postcard setting. A hippo will occasionally pop out from under the water, so ensure your camera is nearby.

After lunch and some refreshing cold drinks, you will return to another part of the park to continue exploring, returning to your lodge at dusk. It has been a long, exciting day, and you are probably tired. You will have time to freshen up and swim a few laps before dinner.

Day 5: Optional Hot Air Balloon Ride/Morning Game Drive, Maasai Village Visit, & Afternoon Game Drive

Your 6 Days Masai Mara safari with Hell’s Gate and Lake Nakuru will see you enjoy the second full-day game drive at Mara after breakfast. The day follows the same routine as day 4, but expect to experience this reserve in a new way.

Alternatively, you can start the morning with a balloon safari followed by a full-day game drive. A balloon safari is one of the most exciting ways of doing a Masai Mara safari from the air.

Our guide will pick you up and drop you at the meeting point for the balloon safari. Here you will have some coffee while waiting for the balloon to be prepared. After boarding, the balloon will start going up. The view here is magnificent, and you can see as far as your eyes can.

Herds of elephants will look like specks, and the meandering Mara River will be shining from down below. The balloon will follow the whims of the wind, going where the wind says. The balloon safari will take about an hour; you will know it’s over when your pilot starts descending.

As the exhilarating ride ends, a sumptuous champagne breakfast will be served. After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a game drive for a full-day game drive. You will only head to the hotel in the evening.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive, Visit a Maasai Village, & Transfer to Nairobi

Our 6 Days best Masai Mara safari packages with Hell’s Gate National Park and Lake Nakuru National Park come to an end today. After breakfast, you will have time to pack up your bags, which your guide will help you load into the vehicle.

You will then leave the park, but not before you go on one last game drive. The park is usually busy in the morning, and you might catch some last-minute action. At around 10.30 am, the guide will drive out of the park and head to a Maasai village.

This is a great chance to interact with a tribe that stubbornly holds on to its culture, even in the face of modernization. You will have the opportunity to see the inside of their traditional huts and watch and learn how to make their fantastic beadwork.

The young Masaai men will be happy to teach you their signature jump, so jump in! From here, your safari guide will start the long trip to Nairobi with a stopover at Narok town for lunch. You will be at JKIA at around 4-5 pm for your international flight.
